Good Morning and Welcome to the Steve A. Hernandez
Auditorium. On behalf of the Antonian Faculty, I consider it a great honor
and privilege to recognize some of Antonian’s finest. The students whom we
are honoring today are exceptional young men and women who have achieved a
truly commendable level of academic excellence or demonstrated a special
dedication in a specific area
of endeavor, and, as a result, they have enriched our community and have
filled us with a sense of gratitude.
There are several awards to be conferred this morning. These include: The
Antonian Award of Excellence: Presented to the student who has maintained
the highest course average for the year or tied for the top honors award.
It is also presented to the student who has had no grade below 94 for the
year to date.
The Antonian Certificate of Merit: Presented to the student who has
maintained the second highest course average for the year or tied for the
second honors award. It is also presented to the student designated as
most improved in a course, to the students who have had no grade below 85
for the year to date, and to the students who have maintained a perfect
attendance record. It is also presented
to the student who submitted the most complete and timeliest college and
scholarship applications packet.
The Antonian Academic Letter from The Renaissance Academic Committee:
Presented to senior, junior, and sophomore students who made the Honor
Roll the third quarter of this year and the Honor Roll in at least five of
the previous six quarters.
The Antonian Academic Letter Honor Medal from The Renaissance Academic
Committee: Academic medals are awarded by Renaissance to students who
earned an Antonian Academic Letter in a previous school year and then make
the Honor Roll very quarter this school year.
The President’s Award for Educational Excellence: Presented to graduating
seniors who attained a GPA of 90 or above and scored at the 85th %-ile or
higher on the SAT or ACT.
The President’s Award for Educational Achievement: Presented to graduating
seniors who have shown outstanding educational growth and commitment to
improvement in academics.
National Merit Scholar: Awarded to students whose PSAT selection index is
over 215 and meet other selection criteria.
The National Merit Scholarship Program Letter of Commendation:
Awarded to students for outstanding performance on the PSAT National Merit
Scholarship Qualifying Test.
The College Board National Hispanic Scholar Certificate: Awarded to
exceptional Hispanic High School students selected from the top 3% of the
Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test (PSAT)
The National Hispanic Institute Summer Leadership Academy Award: Awarded
to Hispanic students who participated in the Young Leaders Conference.
The 2003 Gold Youth Leadership Award: Awarded to one sophomore in
recognition of outstanding leadership potential.
The Bausch & Lomb Honorary Science Award: Awarded to one junior student
who has attained a high scholastic standing in science.
The University of Rochester Humanities & Social Science Award: Awarded to
one junior student who has attained a high scholastic standing in U.S.
History.
National Honor Society Scholarship Certificate of Merit: Awarded to two
top seniors in the National Honor Society.
The 2002 National Wendy’s High School Heisman Award: Awarded to one senior
male and one female student for academic excellence, community service,
and athletic achievement.
The San Antonio Phi Beta Kappa Association Certificate of Merit: Awarded
to the top 9 students in the senior class who have demonstrated
leadership, good character, and work or volunteer experience.
The National Spanish Exam Awards: Awarded to students who place in the
National Spanish Exam Finals sponsored by the American Association of
Teachers of Spanish & Portuguese of Bexar County.
Induction into the National Junior Classical League Latin Honor Society:
Awarded to Students who have a 94% or higher in Latin every quarter.
The National Latin Exam Awards: • Gold Medal – Awarded to students who
placed in the top 5% on the 2002 National Latin Exam. • Silver Medal –
Awarded to students who placed in the top 13% on the 2002 National Latin
Exam.• Magna Cum Laude Certificate – Awarded to students who placed in the
top 20% on the 2002 National Latin Exam. • Cum Laude Certificate – Awarded
to students who placed in the top 22% on the 2002 National Latin Exam.
State Latin Awards – Awarded to students who participated in the State
Latin Academic, Drama, and Music competition.
Alamo Regional Science Fair – Awarded to students who participated in the
Physical Science Team Division.
The TAPPS Patch: Awarded to students who participated in State TAPPS
Academic, Art, Band, & Piano competition.
Voice of Democracy Award: Awarded to a student for writing an essay and
delivering a speech about their personal obligations, rights and
responsibilities as an American citizen.
