The mission of Antonian College Preparatory High School is to inspire and empower young men and women to thrive while leading meaningful lives rooted in the teachings of Jesus Christ.
We are blessed to continue to draw on a history of excellence in Catholic education dating back to our founding. Antonian College Preparatory High School provides a holistic education encompassing spiritual, intellectual, social, emotional, and physical growth.
In 1955, nine year before the school would be established; Archbishop Robert Emmett Lucy began the formal process of building a school on the north side of San Antonio. Antonian High School would eventually become a co-educational institution in 1989 and be known as Antonian College Preparatory High school, the largest Catholic School in San Antonio, a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence, and winner of the TAPPS Henderson Cup for having the top fine arts and athletic programs among private and parochial schools in Texas.
On August 25, 1963, Auxiliary Bishop Leven officiated in groundbreaking ceremonies for the new school due to the absence of Archbishop Lucy who was attending the Second Vatican Council.
Antonian officially opened its doors 1964 and was founded by the Archdiocese of San Antonio with the support of the pastors from twelve northside parishes and staffed by the Brothers of the Christian Schools. The school's motto was a statement of purpose – to build better men. Through the various functions and facilities of Antonian, each student was given endless opportunities to discover truth. Each understands oneself and the world in this endeavor to make this discovery. That understanding enabled students to become better Christians and more intelligent members of society.
Antonian retains many innovative practices attributed to St. John Baptiste De La Salle, including integrating religious instruction with academic subjects, well-prepared teachers with a sense of vocation and mission, and the involvement of parents.
Antonian students have been supported by over 60 years of rich history and traditions. Preparing students academically, socially, and emotionally for higher education and life demands an environment reflective of the real world. Antonian graduates are prepared to interact and work with members of their community in college, classrooms and in the workplace. This Antonian dynamic empowers students to grow as individuals and community members. Today, Antonian is home to over 650 students. Committed to Catholic education, Antonian College Preparatory High School remains the largest Catholic high school in the Archdiocese of San Antonio.
